Connection Over a Cup | Chapter Coffee Podcast
Welcome—we’re glad you’re here. Each week, we explore what brings people together: coffee, conversation, and the experiences that connect us. Pour a cup, slow down, and tune in.
Connection as a Subversive Act
Why is it that many of us look to media to figure out who to be, how to be, and what to buy? What I find mind-blowing is most of what is posted isn’t real; it’s edited and curated. I realize this is not new information, but I wanted to go on record stating the obvious. Many of us hide behind our online personas.
I’m lucky to have grown up without social media and the ubiquity of cell phones. I want to believe the draw is less intense for my generation, but that’s just not true. When did we stop calling, getting together, and conversing without the interruption of pings? Better yet, why did we stop?
I miss people in real life. I want to make the best coffee drink you’ve had in a minute and then try to get you to spit it out over something I said. That’s joy! My mission, and that of Chapter Coffee, is to blend coffee and community by inspiring moments for connection with every cup that’s crafted.
We’re all so busy until we’re not, because life has other plans. “In-person” seems to be a dirty word nowadays, and connection is seen as a subversive act. What do you mean you want me to be real to the touch, flawed, and vulnerable? Let’s take a break from posting, and let’s get subversive!
I love the idea of community. I encourage you to invite someone over and drink coffee (my preferred liquid for shared experience) and remember how good it feels to be in the presence of someone equally human in their condition. Let’s inspire one another and laugh together. The reality is that the next moment can be different from the one before. Change is possible.
Loneliness is real, and I’m going to push the community agenda with new podcasts each month.
Edric Ivan: From Athlete to Artist | The Power of Owning Your Journey
What if the discipline that drives an athlete could also fuel an artist’s creativity?
In this episode of Connection Over a Cup, host Jennifer Brown sits down with Edric Ivan, a San Francisco–based artist who traded the soccer field for the canvas. Edric shares how years of athletic discipline have influenced his creative process and how embracing his cultural identity has evolved both his art and his voice over time.
This conversation dives deep into the intersection of self-discovery, artistic expression, and community, exploring what it means to truly own your journey. Edric reminds us that creativity isn’t just about talent—it’s about showing up, doing the work, and having the courage to tell your own story.
Veteran Support & Coffee | Ben Terpsma on Fire Watch, The 90 Nonprofit & Community After Service
What if the best way to honor veterans wasn’t just by saying "thank you for your service," but by inviting them for a cup of coffee?
In this episode of Connection Over a Cup, host Jennifer Brown sits down with veteran leader Ben Terpsma, founder of The 90, a nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans reintegrate into civilian life. Ben shares how coffee fueled soldiers during long nights of "fire watch," sometimes even more essential than food or shelter, and how those memories inspired Chapter Coffee’s new veteran-dedicated roast: Fire Watch.
Ben also opens up about building community through The Forge Yoga & Movement Studio, where veterans and civilians find strength, mindfulness, and belonging. This conversation explores resilience, the challenges of transition, and why a simple cup of coffee can bridge communities.
Community in Practice: Grit, ADHD, Heart & Finding Your Pack
Community in practice looks less like grand gestures and more like tiny, consistent steps. Paulo Zanetti—Brazilian-born entrepreneur turned Colorado realtor—came to the U.S. with little and rebuilt more than once. He’s candid about ADHD, the role meditation plays in focus and self-forgiveness, and how a morning cup can anchor a busy mind. We dig into marathons as mindset training, what caring for animals taught him about discipline and kindness, and why his rule in business is simple: everyone should win. If you’re craving practical ways to feel grounded and supported, start here—and find your pack.
